Sustainable Tourism

"Caring for the places that we visit "
Tourism is probably the largest industry in the world. The activities that make up tourism provide over 10 million jobs and the industry is still growing. It is an important part of the economy of many countries, including many less developed nations. It is vital that tourists, including our customers, recognise the importance of caring for the places that we visit. Many of us have seen places that have been spoiled by lack of care, through provision of poor infrastructure or too many visitors in the wrong places. Transylvan is determined that this will not happen where we are active.
Playing our part
Transylvan is committed to playing its part through caring for the places and communities that we visit. We will continue to work with our suppliers to deliver a responsible product and quality performance.
Climate change
We are helping to minimise the effects of emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases on the global climate from the transport that we use (aircraft, buses and cars) by contributing to CarbonOffsetsLtd .This contribution is equivalent to some £1.50 per customer and will be invested, for example, in renewable energy schemes in less developed countries. We will continue to do this until governments bring in alternative ways in which to address the climate change impact of transport.
Other tourism effects on communities and the environment
We are contributing £1 per customer to TheTravelFoundation – a British based Charity that is implementing tourism projects and practice around the world to deliver long term caring. Our contribution is greater than that per passenger from major companies such as Cooks and First Choice. We offer you the chance to make an additional personal contribution of 50p if booking through SUNVIL.
Romanian communities
We will contribute also £1 per customer to a community project in Romania. Our customers are asked to make suggestions, based on what they see in Romania, about suitable projects to support.
We hope that this convinces you of our commitment to communities and the environment.
